The bad weather forced to cancel Stage 3

25/07/2012

Desafío Litoral caravan had an unexpected rest day in their arrived to Bella Vista city, located in the province of Corrientes. The helicopters of the security plan couldn’t take off because of the fog and the organization was forced to cancel Stage 3 (Posadas – Bella Vista).

According as expected, the Direction of the Competition waited until 10:30 am, the limit time for helicopters to be at the air and reach on time to fly over the stage during the race. However, the fog conditions didn’t improve and the helicopters couldn’t take off at time.

Because of this situation, the organization decided to cancel the stage of the day to maintain the safety of the competitors. All the participants traveled in a link section to Bella Vista, place where they will have a rest day. Tomorrow they will have to face the Bella Vista – Corrientes stage, the longest and more demanding section of the whole race.

In the sports section, it is important to remember that the Frenchman Cyril Despres is leading in Bikes over his teammate Jacub Przygonski. Third is the Chilenean Francisco “Chaleco” López. Meanwhile, the leader in cars is the Spanish Nani Roma on board of his Mini All4 Racing. The second and third positions are in control of the X-Raid drivers Orlando Terranova and Boris Garafulic.

On the other hand, Quads 4×2 are dominated by the Uruguayan Sergio Lafuente, who yesterday had a brilliant performance to win the overall qualification of the day, been even faster than the KTM of Despres and López. Furthermore, Quads 4×4 had the cordobés Daniel Mazzuco as the leader of the overall qualification, and Omar Yoma holds the first position of the UTV category.

Stage 4 in details:

The fourth day of the competition in Desafío Litoral will be, -no doubt about it-, one of the most assorted ones due to soil conditions, routes, and difficulties.

The stage is divided into two sections; the first one is more demanding in terms of driving and navigation. The sandy surface dominates practically the whole stage, starting in a narrow and fast section to get to a long section with footprints that call for a careful driving.

After a water splash, the stage has a short fast section to enter the area with footprints that then are lost. This leads to a cross country area where drivers have to dodge many lakes of different sizes, all of them closer to a big estuary which marks the course of the competition.

The end of the first section has a sandy section, which is not deep, but it calls for attention so as to keep the course of action. Pace changes are the key to this section, plus road conditions which continually change.

The second section is a little bit faster, but by the middle part competitors will have to drive over an old footprint along an embankment where any mistake they make has a price to be paid.

However, the end of the stage is very fast and it goes all along an important estuary which characterizes the area and the province of Corrientes.
